I'll Take That As A Compliment!

We went to our family reunion in Nashville, GA this past weekend. Because I've been losing a lot of weight in the last several months, I've had to buy transition clothes for my ever-changing wardrobe (Can we say fun!!! Oh yeh!!!). I recently bought a new quarter-inch sleeved shirt that I thought was perfect for this occasion. Not too dressy, but not too casual, it's black with an assymetrical neckline and has a gather at the one shoulder. It's a long shirt, doesn't show any cleavage (or chest at all for that matter) & hits my hips at just the right spot to slenderize my midsection. It's not too baggy and not too tight, which makes it modest in my opinion and that's why I decided to wear it. Oh yeh, the shirt just so happens to have embroidery of the outline of a jazzy-looking cat on the bottom of one side.

After eating lunch and mingling with some of my relatives, I started walking back to our table. On my way, my dear sweet aunt motioned for me to come over to her. She tugged at my arm to bend over and whispered in my ear, "You look like Catwoman". Now, just a little note...this is the same lovely aunt that, three years ago, came to my granny's house and greeted me by giving me a hug whilst whispering in my ear, "If you'd lose a little weight, you'd be able to have a baby" (Note: I'd had 3 miscarriages in one years' time prior to this lovely moment). So, regarding the "Catwoman" comment, I knew full well that she meant it to be a dig at me. Southern women tend to do this very well. However, I also knew that being compared me to the likings of Catwoman is hardly not a put-down in my opinion! When she whispered that in my ear, my mind briefly went to the images of Halle Berry & Michelle Pfeifer clad in tight black leather body suits. So, like a good little Southern Baptist-raised wife & mommy, I straightened my back, smiled really big, patted her on the shoulder and replied, "Why, thank you! I'll take that as a compliment!"

Some people just can't be pleased, so I've learned that when a dear aunt can't keep her mouth shut long enough for her foot to even go in it, a wise and witty response tends to do the trick!
